This Ca' Rezzonico chandelier in transparent and amber Murano glass is the second kind.
The Ca' Rezzonico is the most architecturally complex form in the Venetian chandelier tradition. It takes its name from the Palazzo Ca' Rezzonico on the Grand Canal, home to one of Venice's most celebrated historic interiors, and the chandelier form it describes is defined by its structural vocabulary: a vertical central column, lateral arms that open in symmetrical tiers, and an accumulation of decorative elements: volutes, scrolls, floral forms, leaves, that gives the overall composition its characteristic sense of layered, baroque abundance.
Every element of Velato is made by hand in Murano, following the same techniques that have defined this tradition for centuries.
Glass: transparent and amber
What defines the chromatic and optical identity of this piece is the pairing of two glass types with fundamentally different behaviours toward light.
The transparent glass elements carry light without absorbing it. They create the sensation of luminosity and lightness that prevents a chandelier of this scale and decorative density from reading as heavy, the eye moves through the transparent sections, finding depth and continuation rather than mass.
The amber glass elements do the opposite: they slow light down, colouring it, warming it. Where the transparent glass disperses, the amber concentrates; producing localised areas of warm, honey-toned glow that give the chandelier its intimate quality even at monumental scale.
The gold details; present at the arms, the junctions, and the ornamental elements; complete this chromatic logic: they catch light where the glass releases it, producing a warm metallic gleam that unifies the composition and anchors it in the vocabulary of Venetian luxury.
Structure and movement
The central body of the Velato develops vertically through a sequence of stacked glass elements, floral decorations, and ornamental details; a column that reads as both structural and sculptural.
The lateral arms open from this central body in harmonious, symmetrical curves, each one decorated with worked glass elements, leaves, scrolls, and the ornamental details that are the identifying marks of the Ca' Rezzonico form. The lamp holders in transparent and amber glass are integrated into the arm structure as part of the decorative composition rather than as technical additions.
At the base, a decorative glass pendant closes the silhouette downward, giving the piece its characteristic vertical impulse and completing the overall form.
The result is a chandelier that creates movement through its structure, the eye travels through it rather than simply landing on it.
Light behaviour
When lit, the Velato produces a layered light output. The transparent glass elements generate bright, dispersed reflections across the surfaces of the room. The amber elements diffuse a warm, enveloping tonality that softens the overall quality of light and gives the space an atmosphere that reads as both grand and intimate.
Even unlit, the piece maintains a strong decorative presence: the contrast between the transparent glass, the amber tones, and the gold details creates a visual depth that reads differently across the day as the ambient light shifts.
Made to order
The Velato is produced to order by Murano master glassmakers. Dimensions, number of lights, and electrical configuration are specified at the time of commission. Contact us for dimensions, configuration options, production lead time, and shipping details.
Note: As with every authentic piece of Murano artistic glass, minor variations in the chromatic intensity, surface character, and detail arrangement of individual elements are an intrinsic characteristic of the hand-production process, not a defect, but the mark of a piece that exists in exactly one version.
