Original 1920s–30s Venetian chandelier in hand-worked opaline Murano glass: tulip cups, pincered roses, leaf crown. Certified vintage.

A Murano chandelier from between the 1920s and 1930s, made entirely by hand. The opaline holds the light and lets it out slowly, soft and faintly pearly.

The piece has only one colour, repeated in every element. That's why it's full of detail and still looks clean.

Opaline is a milky, translucent glass. It diffuses light instead of reflecting it. The roses on the central sphere and the leaves around each dish were shaped one by one with pincers, while the glass was still hot. No two are exactly alike.

The composition grows from a central stem, broken by a sphere covered in roses. Curved, solid-section arms reach out from it, each ending in a tall, flared tulip cup resting on a leaf-edged dish. At the top, a crown of leaves and pastorals closes the piece and gives it lightness.

The opaline softens the light from the source. The result is a warm, even glow with faint pearly reflections. It feels calm, never glaring.

The techniques, the glass mixtures and the hands that worked them have all changed since then. Today this chandelier couldn't be recreated as it is. Whoever chooses it brings home an authentic fragment of Murano's history.

Note: small irregularities in the shape of the roses, leaves and cups, and slight variations in the opaline, come from hand-working and from the age of the piece. They're a mark of authenticity, not defects.
