An original Murano candle holder from the 1970s. Not a reissue, not a reproduction: the real piece, with its history.

A half moon of solid glass, heavy and clear. Along its curve, a row of small openings waits for the candles.

Craft and technique

The piece is made of solid Murano glass, worked by hand in the furnace. The surface is left gently rippled, and at the base the glass forms soft waves, as if it were still moving. The holes are set into the thickness of the glass, following the curve of the shape.

The candle holder has a flat base and a round, arched top. The candle holes follow the arch, from one end to the other, so the flames draw the same curve. Seen from the side, the glass shows its full thickness: that's where its character comes from.

With the candles lit, the solid glass fills with light. Each flame is reflected and multiplied inside the block, and the rippled surface spreads soft glints around it. In daylight, it works as a small glass sculpture.

Note: small bubbles, irregularities in the surface and differences in thickness come from hand-working and from the age of the piece. They're a mark of authenticity, not defects.
