Craft and technique

Every part of the frame is worked by hand in the furnace by Murano glassmakers. The ribbed bands follow the oval shape of the mirror, and the edge is finished with a row of small glass beads, one after another. The pink flowers are modelled with pincers while the glass is still hot, petal by petal, with a fine textured surface. Small clear rosettes are scattered around the frame and along the handle.

The mirror plate is oval, framed by several bands of clear glass. Two pink flowers sit at the top, and a third marks the point where the frame turns into the handle. The handle carries the same beaded edge and ribbed pattern, so the whole object reads as one continuous piece.

The clear glass catches the light along every band and bead. The pink flowers glow softly, and the mirror plate reflects the room with the gentle depth of an old glass.

Note: small irregularities in the beads, the flowers and the glass, and signs of age on the mirror plate, come from hand-working and from the age of the piece. They're a mark of authenticity, not defects.
