The way a maestro vetraio reads the temperature of molten glass by its colour alone, shifting from deep orange to pale straw as it cools; is knowledge that lives in the hands, not in a manual. The way a hand-knotted rug accumulates thousands of individual knots over weeks of work, each one tied by a craftsperson who learned from the one before them. The way a Venetian mirror acquires its particular quality of reflection from a surface that has been worked, not merely polished.

Murano Shutters was founded on a simple conviction: that this kind of making still exists, still matters, and still deserves to reach the interiors it was created for.

Who we are

We are a luxury design company with commercial headquarters in Los Angeles and production roots on the island of Murano, in the Venetian Lagoon.

Our team operates across both sides of the Atlantic; sourcing directly from master workshops on Murano, collaborating with artisan rug producers in India, and working alongside interior designers, architects and private collectors across North America, Europe and beyond.

This dual identity is not a logistical detail. It is the defining characteristic of what we do.

We are close enough to the craft to know which fornace produced a chandelier and which master blew each of its elements. We are close enough to the client to understand what a project actually requires and to translate that requirement into something the workshop can build.

What we do

Murano Shutters brings three categories of decorative excellence together under one offering.

Murano glass lighting Chandeliers, sconces, ceiling lights, floor lamps and table lamps - all handmade on the island of Murano by master glassblowers using techniques that have defined Venetian artistic glass for more than seven centuries. Every piece carries the Vetro Artistico® Murano certification, issued by the Consorzio Promovetro Murano, as documented proof of its origin and authenticity. Our collection spans the full range of Murano's aesthetic heritage: from the monumental poliedri chandeliers of the mid-century to the organic, sculptural forms of contemporary Venetian design; from lattimo and pulegoso pieces that reference the great studios of Venini, Mazzega and Vistosi, to bespoke commissions built to a designer's exact specification.

Hand-knotted rugs Our rug collection is built on the same principle as our glass: craftsmanship as the non-negotiable starting point. Each rug is produced by hand - knotted or tufted by artisan workshops whose techniques trace back to the great Oriental rug traditions of Hereke, Ghom, Isfahan and Tabriz. Materials are chosen for their quality and character: New Zealand handspun wool, natural silk, Tencel, bamboo silk, cashmere, alpaca, Himalayan wool. Every rug in our collection is available for customisation - dimensions, colour palette, design - or can be developed entirely from scratch for a specific project.

Bespoke design and custom commissions Beyond our catalogue, we develop fully bespoke pieces for clients who require something that does not exist yet. Custom chandeliers built to precise ceiling dimensions and wiring specifications. Rugs designed around a floor plan and a colour story. Venetian mirrors engraved with exclusive motifs for a single space. This is where the distance between craft and client disappears entirely.

How we work

We do not operate as a conventional retailer.

Most of the projects we work on begin with a conversation, sometimes a brief, sometimes a reference image, sometimes nothing more than a description of a room and the feeling it should produce. From that starting point, we translate intent into specification, specification into production, and production into a finished object that arrives documented, certified and ready to install.

We work with interior designers and architecture studios as supply partners for significant residential and hospitality projects. We work with private collectors who know what they are looking for and expect their questions to be answered with precision. We work with hospitality groups and boutique hotels that want their interiors to carry the kind of detail that cannot be sourced from a catalogue.

Every client relationship is handled directly, without intermediaries, and in complete confidence.

There is one question we ask of every piece before it enters our collection or leaves our warehouse:

Could this have been made any other way?

If the answer is yes, if the same object could have been produced faster, cheaper or by a machine without meaningful loss; it does not belong here.

What belongs here is the chandelier that took a master glassblower three days to assemble. The rug that required four craftspeople and twelve weeks of work. The mirror whose surface carries, in its slight imperfections, the evidence of the hands that made it.

This is the standard we hold ourselves to. It is also the standard our clients have come to expect.
