The craft
The quadriedri form — a four-sided geometric prism, hand-crafted and hand-finished by Venetian maestri vetrai in a Murano fornace — belongs to one of the most distinguished formal vocabularies in the history of Venetian glass. It differs fundamentally from the poliedri in its relationship to light. Where the poliedri sphere diffuses and scatters, the quadriedri prism refracts: it bends light, splits it into spectral components, and projects those components onto surrounding surfaces in patterns that shift continuously as the viewer moves. One hundred and eighty-four prisms in two distinct lengths — 107 at 11 inches and 77 at 13¾ inches — are arranged in a cascading, layered composition that creates visual depth and architectural rhythm across the full height of the piece. No two positions in the room offer the same view. Produced on order, each chandelier is assembled by hand in Murano to the standards required for authentic Vetro Artistico® Murano production — no shortcuts, no substitute materials, no industrial assembly.
The palette
The color range is built on a foundation of natural, organic tones — amber, brown, cream, and transparent crystal — that give the composition warmth and coherence at a distance. Move closer, and the prisms reveal something more complex: individual elements carry traces of blue, smoky grey, purple, green, yellow, and pink, each one the result of specific mineral compounds introduced into the molten glass at the fornace. The effect is geological rather than decorative — the palette reads like a cross-section of the earth, layered and stratified, each color present for a reason. In this, the chandelier draws on a tradition of Murano chromatic experimentation associated with masters such as Fulvio Bianconi and Napoleone Martinuzzi, whose engagement with color in glass remains the benchmark against which subsequent production is measured.
The material and structure
The nickel metal frame provides a cooler, more neutral counterpoint to the warmth of the amber and brown glass — a deliberate tonal contrast that allows the prisms to read clearly without the visual competition that a gold or brass frame would introduce. Installation requires a ceiling height of at least 11–12 ft to allow the full hanging length to read as intended, with adequate clearance above head height.
