Foglia is not a reproduction of a historical style. It is a continuation of it;  made today by the same hands, with the same techniques, in the same furnaces on the island of Murano, in an unbroken line of transmission that stretches back centuries.

The rigata liscia technique

Rigata liscia is one of the most demanding free-hand techniques in the Murano repertoire. The term refers to a specific surface treatment, a smooth ribbing or striating of the glass; that is executed by Murano master glassmakers entirely without moulds, using only hand tools and the controlled movement of the molten material. The precision required is considerable: the ribbing must be uniform in rhythm and depth across the full length of each element, achieved while the glass is still hot and responsive, with no possibility of correction once it cools. The result is a surface with a characteristic play of light, the ridges catch and distribute illumination differently from a smooth surface, giving each element a visual complexity that increases rather than diminishes at close range.

Hand-blown leaves and decorative elements

The glass leaves that ornament the Florian are hand-shaped individually by master glassmakers, no two are identical in the precise angle of their curl, the distribution of colour within the glass, or the way they catch the light. This is craftsmanship at the level where the distinction between making and making art becomes genuinely difficult to maintain. On colour variants featuring 24k gold; azzurro, blu, rosa, verde; the gold is worked directly into the glass during production, not applied as a surface finish: it is fused into the material, with the permanence and depth that only a material genuinely integrated into the object can have.

Customisation

The Foglia is available in eight colour options and six size configurations, allowing it to be specified precisely for the requirements of a given project. Every piece is made to order; not pulled from stock, but produced for the specific configuration chosen at the time of purchase.
