There are chandeliers that illuminate a room. And then there are pieces that quietly transform it, shifting its mood, softening its edges, making it feel like somewhere entirely different.

This light blue and lattimo glass chandelier does exactly that.

Glassblowing, form and material

Fifty-two petals, each one individually mouth-blown by master glassmakers using soffiatura a bocca; the ancient breath-and-blowpipe technique that has defined authentic Venetian glass production for centuries. The light blue glass carries a tone that is neither decorative nor neutral: it is precise, considered, and deeply rooted in the chromatic language of the Venetian lagoon. Paired with lattimo white, the opaque, milky glass technique with roots in fifteenth-century; it creates a composition that reads as both refined and quietly complex.

When lit, the lattimo petals diffuse light with a characteristic softness, while the blue elements introduce a cooler, more directional quality. The interplay between the two produces a layered luminosity that shifts as the viewing angle changes and as the light source dims or brightens. No two petals are identical the slight variations in curvature, surface texture, and colour depth that result from the mouth-blowing process are not imperfections but signatures: the evidence that this object was made by hand, one element at a time.

Structure and composition

The 52 petals are arranged in a composition that is simultaneously sculptural and floral; structured enough to read as a designed object from across the room, organic enough to reward close attention. The chrome-plated frame is a considered material choice: its cool reflectivity amplifies the blue and white tones of the glass without introducing a competing warmth, keeping the chromatic register of the piece internally consistent. At 25.6 in (66 cm) in diameter with a body height of 29.5 in (75 cm) without chain, the proportions are generous without being overwhelming, a range of spatial contexts can accommodate this piece without requiring exceptional ceiling heights.

Craftsmanship and provenance

Produced in the late 20th century on the island of Murano, this chandelier belongs to a period of sustained creative confidence in Venetian glassmaking; when the palmette and petal form was being refined into some of the most enduring lighting objects in the Italian design canon. The chrome structure places it firmly in the modernist inflection of that tradition: less ornate than the classical Rezzonico style, more architecturally precise, and entirely consistent with the way contemporary designers are re-engaging with this period of Italian production.

For designers and architects

Seven E14 sockets offer a clean, controllable light output suited to the atmospheric quality of the piece. The chain allows installation height to be calibrated on-site to the specific ceiling clearance of the space. For bespoke commissions, alternative colour ways, custom dimensions, or modified element counts; the Murano Shutters design team is available for direct consultation.

Note: As with every authentic piece of mouth-blown Murano glass, minor variations in petal shape, tone, and the distribution of colour within individual elements are an intrinsic characteristic of the handcrafting process; not a defect, but confirmation of the piece's authenticity and singularity.

In which setting does this piece work best?

This chandelier belongs in rooms where light is understood as atmosphere rather than function.
The pairing of light blue and lattimo white — two of the most evocative tones in the Murano tradition — produces a quality of illumination that is genuinely unlike anything artificial lighting normally achieves: soft, diffuse, and faintly aquatic, with a coolness that reads as sophisticated rather than cold.
It works beautifully as the centrepiece of a formal living room or a large dining area where the ceiling height allows the full vertical dimension of the piece to express itself.
In a grand entrance hall or double-height foyer it has an almost architectural presence — the chrome frame catches the ambient light while the blue and white petals seem to hold a light of their own.
For hospitality interiors — boutique hotels, high-end spa reception areas, private dining rooms — the chromatic register of this chandelier is particularly well calibrated: calming enough to set a considered mood, distinctive enough to anchor the entire room.
It pairs naturally with white plaster or limewashed walls, pale stone floors, and furniture in natural linen, white bouclé, or soft grey — any palette that lets the blue and white glass speak without competition.
