Some objects look unearthed rather than made.

Reperto takes its cue from ancient Roman glass, which came out of the ground changed by centuries of earth and minerals. Its surface is crusted and scarred with gold, and marked by a beauty no one designed.

Craft and technique

Vetro scavo (literally "excavated glass") is a Murano technique that recreates the patina of archaeological glass at the furnace. The vase is blown in dark glass. While it is still molten, the master rolls it through mineral powders and oxides that fuse with the surface, swell and open into tiny craters. Each furnace keeps its recipe for these powders to itself.

Where the crust breaks open, the deep black of the underlying glass shows through. Where it holds, it turns a warm, almost lunar gold. The heat sets the pattern in a matter of seconds, so no two pieces are alike.

Note: Every Reperto is shaped entirely by hand and fire. Variations in texture, crust distribution and colour are a mark of authenticity, not a defect.
