There are chandeliers that light a room. And then there are pieces that warm it; that change not just the light but the feeling of everything underneath them.
This ruby red and gold Murano glass chandelier is the second kind, entirely and without reservation.
Craft and technique
Every element of this chandelier is individually mouth-blown by Murano artisans using the soffiatura a bocca technique that has defined Venetian glassmaking for centuries. The sinuous arms; each one opening outward from the central body in a fluid, organic arc, are formed by hand while the glass is still molten, their curvature the direct result of the glassmaker's gesture rather than a mould or template. The hand-formed red glass cups that crown each arm are blown separately, their shape,wide and open at the rim, designed to hold and radiate light upward and outward simultaneously. The drop-shaped pendants and the bud and flame-inspired details that accent the composition are each formed individually, assembled into the final piece one element at a time. The gold details are not applied to the surface: they are fused into the glass during the blowing process, integral to the material rather than decorative additions. At the base of the central body, a pendant drop in the classic Venetian tradition closes the composition downward with the same ornamental precision that defines every other element of the piece.
Structure and composition
The chandelier is built around a slender central body, connected to the ceiling canopy by a decorative gold-finished metal chain that is part of the composition rather than a purely structural element. Multiple sinuous arms open outward from the central body across several levels, each terminating in a hand-formed glass cup that holds a light source. The multi-level arrangement gives the piece its sense of abundance and movement: the eye travels through the composition rather than resolving it at a glance, discovering new details; a drop pendant, a bud detail, a shift in the curvature of an arm, at each pass. The central pendant drop at the base anchors the composition and completes the silhouette from below, visible from any angle in the room.
Light behaviour
Ruby red Murano glass and gold are two of the most light-responsive materials in the Venetian palette, and this chandelier combines both at scale. When lit, the ruby red glass becomes translucent: the light source within each cup passes through the glass, warming the tone toward amber and garnet and projecting coloured light across the surrounding walls, floor, and ceiling. The gold details amplify this effect, catching the light from the glass elements and distributing it further across the composition ,every gold point becomes a secondary light source, multiplying the warmth of the red without competing with it. The result is an atmosphere rather than an illumination: enveloping, layered, and impossible to reproduce with any other material.
Made to order: dimensions and configuration
This chandelier is produced entirely to order and fully adaptable to the requirements of the project. Height, diameter, number of arms, number of levels and overall configuration can all be developed according to the specific proportions of the destination space. Custom colours and glass finishes are available on request, the ruby red and gold version shown here is one point of departure within a full palette of Murano glass tones and metal finishes.
