This Venetian Murano glass chandelier belongs to the second kind, entirely and without reservation.
Craft and technique
Every element of this chandelier is handmade by master glassmakers in Venice, following the soffiatura a bocca technique passed down through centuries of Murano manufacturing tradition. Flowers, leaves, scrolls and bell-shaped cups are blown individually, each with its own geometry and optical weight; before being assembled into the final composition. The reticello work on the bell-shaped cups is one of the most demanding techniques in Venetian glassmaking: the grid pattern must be defined while the glass is still molten and incandescent, with no possibility of correction once it cools. The gold details are not applied to the surface: they are fused into the glass itself during the blowing process, becoming an integral part of the material.
Structure and composition
The structure develops vertically across multiple ornamental tiers, creating a silhouette that reads from every point in the room. The central body, richly worked, serves as the compositional axis: from it, curved arms in transparent glass open laterally, each ending in a reticello bell-shaped cup accented with small spherical glass details. The upper ornamental crown closes the composition at the top with the same decorative density as the central body, while a long lower pendant element accentuates the verticality of the piece and underlines its sculptural nature. The result is an object that does not resolve itself in a single reading, the eye continues to find new details, new transparencies, new points of light.
Light behaviour
The crystal clear transparent glass and gold details work together in a complementary way: the crystal captures and multiplies the light rays, dispersing them across the space in clean, deep reflections; the gold warms them, adding a chromatic dimension that transforms artificial light into something very close to natural Venetian light. The luminous behaviour shifts with the intensity of the source and the time of day, making the chandelier a constantly evolving element within the same space.
